About Steve

After an 18 year gap between finished oil paintings, I’m finally back. I’m trying my hand at daily paintings but I’ll be happy to get 3 or 4 paintings done each week. I’m doing this at night, sequestered in my kitchen, where I have to set up and clean up each and every night.  If you want it badly enough, you’ll manage to do it despite small issues.

Eventually I’d like to quit my day job and do this full time. I think I can do it.  But first, paint. Then paint some more. Then paint more! “They” say you paint 100 terrible paintings before you figure it out and start making good paintings. Here’s to a humble beginning.

I’ve learned more in the last few minutes here than I have in the last 3 hours searching the internet for the “key to becoming a successful painter” (through both technique & marketing). Your style, in your work & your words, are a breath of fresh air. The smooth, effortless look of your beautiful work is, at first glance, intimidating to an artist wanna-be. But after reading what you actually put into it, well, now I don’t feel alone in fear of applying dark paint.

Thanks for this. I am not crazy (when the canvas fights back) & I am also inspired, despite my limited talent.

    You are not a dick.
